PS

OVERWEIGHT
August 17, 2026Horizon stated in the case: 3–6 months

Published once at least 12 trading days had closed after this run.

Summary

Enter a half position in PS at current levels (~$39.08), sized so a stop at $36.50 represents no more than 1–2% of portfolio equity given elevated ATR (2.53, ~6.5% of price). Add on a confirmed volume breakout above $41.40. Stop-loss at $36.50 (below the 10 EMA ~$38.22 and VWMA ~$36.89). Take partial profits at $45, reassess toward $48–$54.94 if the NAV discount narrows or new institutional buying emerges. Time horizon 3–6 months for the core thesis; monitor options flow (put/call 1.47) and any fee/discount-closing news as confirmation or tightening triggers. Our analysis points to a genuine but modest edge, supporting an Overweight stance rather than a full-throated Buy.

The case

This is a momentum-plus-catalyst trade, not a deep-value entry. The bull case rests on three mutually reinforcing pillars: (1) a confirmed technical breakout — price above the 10 EMA, 50 SMA, and 200 SMA, positive/rising MACD, and an RSI reset to ~60 after cooling from overbought, with the $41.40→$39.08 pullback reading as normal consolidation; (2) a stable operating business obscured by a one-time item — the -$147.6M net loss is driven by a -$159.5M realized loss on securities sales (tax-loss harvesting/portfolio upgrade), while revenue grew 10% YoY, operating income was +$5.07M, and TTM FCF was $153.8M; and (3) the Klarman/Baupost stake, which reframes the ~20% NAV discount as a mispricing opportunity rather than a structural verdict — a value investor of that caliber entering is a genuine catalyst.

The bear case is real but not decisive. Rich valuation (18.65x book, 40.4x forward PE), a tight current ratio of 0.70, the 95% cash collapse to $47M, and bearish put/call options flow (1.47) are legitimate concerns. However, the cash deployment is normal fund behavior (capital moved into AFS securities that are liquid), the options flow is explainable as earnings-season hedging in a high-IV (79.4%) environment rather than directional conviction, and the realized loss is genuinely one-time. The bear's strongest point — that the NAV discount is a "verdict" — is directly weakened by Klarman's entry.

The bullish technicals and catalyst support outperformance over the near term, but the rich valuation, tight liquidity, and bearish options flow cap conviction. This is a directional lean, not a high-conviction slam-dunk — which is why we favor an Overweight rather than a more aggressive stance.

What would weaken it

  • Rich valuation (18.65x book, 40.4x forward PE)
  • Tight current ratio of 0.70 and 95% cash collapse to $47M
  • Bearish put/call options flow (1.47) in high-IV (79.4%) environment
